Come night time, the beaches look like something from another planet. The plankton in the water reacts to movement by lighting up in a gorgeous blue hue – this reaction is called bioluminescence and it needs to be seen to be believed!

The Lagunas de Baltinache, or Lagunas Escondidas are 7 bright blue lagoons in the middle of the driest desert in the world. Being there feels like a miracle – if you can find them. The name literally translates to “hidden lagoons”. The lagoons are saltier than the dead sea which means that you always float. The silence and the breathtaking views ensure that you will be the most relaxed you have ever been!

Check out this article we wrote on visiting the Chilean desert.
