Amsterdam is known for its artistic heritage, rich history and beautiful canal. The city is filled with fun activities and things to see, making it the perfect weekend trip destination for you and your friends.

Don’t know where to start? Luckily we have compiled a list of things to do on your Dutch weekend trip.

Take a boat tour

Amsterdam has a network of canals that connect the city, making it perfect to discover by boat. Book your trip with Blue Boat tours for the best deal and use the time on the boat to decide where you’ll head to next.

Ride a bike

Be like a true Amsterdam-native and discover the city by bike. Choose from the numerous bike rental spots and get cycling!

Tackle the Museums

Amsterdam has over 50 museums, so make sure to visit as many as you can! The Rijksmuseum is famous for its large art collection so it is a great place to start. There is even a Van Gogh museum if you enjoy his art. Or you can go to the Anne Frank house and see this historic home for yourself. Admire the architecture of the museum buildings as you walk through or past them, as they are truly beautiful and unique. For a more quirky option visit the Museum of Our Lord in the Attic, where Catholics organised services in times of reformation. Either way, if you are a fan of museums, Amsterdam is the city for you!

Enjoy a market stroll or bike ride

Amsterdam is filled with markets, especially during tulip season (between April and May). Choose between flower markets, food markets or antique markets.

Discover the ‘hofjes’

Amsterdam is filled with hidden gardens and squares, but you need to hunt for them as they are often not obvious at all. Head to Begijnhof where you can also see the oldest house in Amsterdam. There you can also visit an old chapel that tells the story of the Miracle of Amsterdam.

Eat your way through the city

There are so many unconventional food places in Amsterdam that it is hard to pick which one is the best. Start with an apple pie snack from Winkel 43, then take a lunch break in Jordaan – a quirky neighbourhood filled with artisan shops, boutiques and restaurants.

Go to Vondelpark

Take some time to relax at Vondelpark. This park is 47 hectares big and the largest of its kind in Amsterdam. Have an ice cream or a drink and soak up the sun in this beautiful green city oasis.

Discover Amsterdam Noord

Amsterdam Noord is located in the Northern part of the city and is a hip area filled with fun bars, a fake beach restaurant, art and quirky shops. Finish off your Amsterdam adventure with a nice cocktail on a rooftop bar while overlooking the beautiful city that you have just explored. Life is good!
