This beach is hidden away behind natural cliffs in the south of Portugal, but don’t be fooled – it is very often listed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world along with its neighbouring Albandeira beach!

You can have a stroll on top of the cliffs, enjoy a picnic on the picnic tables and enjoy a golden sunset on this postcard beach. If you walk far enough on the cliffs you’ll encounter hidden beaches so it’s perfect for adventurous travellers, too.

Praia Dona Ana is a beach near Lagos.

Due to its calm and clear waters, it is the perfect location for snorkelling. You can see a large variety of flora and fauna underwater and there are almost no currents or large waves. If you are looking for a more spacious and populated beach, you can go to the nearby Meia-Praia as well.

3. Praia de Benagil, Lagoa

You may know this one as the classic Algarve postcard photo. Benagil beach has a beautiful cave that you can swim or walk into depending on the tide which is attached to the regular beach. If you prefer to be on the safe side, take a boat tour and you can see the inside of the cave with the boat as well as all of the other beautiful neighbouring beaches.

4. Ilha da Armona, Olhão

Ilha da Armona is definitely a tip from the locals, as it is still not a very touristy destination.

To get to the island, head to Olhão and catch the boat. Once on the island, walk all the way to the end of it and you will see the whitest sand and the most peaceful beach ever. Make sure to put on your walking shoes though as no cars are allowed on the island itself.

5. Prainha, Alvor

Prainha literally translates to “little beach” – a fitting name – and it is located in the charming coastal town of Alvor. The Prainha is a very popular beach among local people all year around and features some of the characteristic rock formations of the region, which you can also find at its neighbouring larger beach, Praia da Rocha. Relax at the beach and enjoy a stroll by the bars and restaurants at Praia da Rocha afterwards. The perfect Summer day!
